Before coming to a dance or lessons, check out this page for some things to know!
Please follow these simple rules to keep everyone safe and comfortable!
When you attend our events you can expect the following:
We recommend prioritizing comfort as Lindy Hop is an athletic dance. Think of this as a work out but in fancy clothes. You can look nice while also being practical Specific tips below.
We will not tolerate disrespectful behavior towards others, especially based on their identity. Any accidental disrespectful behavior will be addressed and intentional behavior or unwillingness to make adjustments will result in your removal
Be Inclusive: Lil’ Rhody Lindy Hop is an inclusive space for everyone. Do not use Racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, or ableist language, or make inappropriate/harmful comments to others.
Dance Roles: are genderless. Please respect the roles people dance in regardless of their gender expression. We have colored wrist bands to help people know what roles others dance.
Boundaries: If you ask someone to dance and they say "no," thank them and move on. Do not coerce anyone to dance with you. Anyone can say no for any reason or end a dance at any time. ALSO, you can turn down or end a dance for any reason!
No Unsolicited Feedback: Don't give feedback on the dance floor, unless someone explicitly asks you, or is doing something that hurts you or makes you uncomfortable. It’s not your job to correct others and tell them they’re wrong! Plus, YOU could be wrong, and wouldn’t that be embarrassing?
Floor Craft (Look around!): We’re having fun dancing, and we’ve all gotten lost in the moment, but there are other people dancing! Please look around and avoid bumping into others! Lindy Hop is an athletic dance, and we don’t want anyone to collide and get injured!
Overall: Please be thoughtful and respectful of others. Do your best to be aware of body language and social cues. If someone asks you to take a step back or to stop, listen to them. If someone does not use this language but their body language is indicating they're uncomfortable, maybe give them some space. If someone is making you uncomfortable, please talk to the staff and we will do our best to address the issue immediately.
